Pre-arrival

Our nearest train station is Lydney roughly five miles away, and there are buses every hour which stop at the end of our lane. The nearest shops are in Newnham. In addition to our farm animals we have a black Labrador bitch, Shena, and there are guinea fowl in the garden. We are happy to accept horses, dogs and small pets by arrangement.

Car parking and arrival

Parking is by the house. Access to the front door is up a gravel slope, or, if preferred, a flight of eight steps to the garden door. The area is lit with a motion sensor light. A small step takes you into the hall via a wide front door.

Welcome area

Guests are welcomed into the hall, which is level throughout. Seating is available with two upright chairs. The area is well lit with lamps and ceiling lights. We can help with carrying luggage to the bedrooms.

Bedrooms

Our guest bedrooms are situated on the first floor and are reached by a flight of 12 stairs, each 200 mm (8 in) high with a handrail on one side. Our beds are usually made up with duvets, but blankets are available on request. Our pillows are feather and down, but non-allergenic ones are available on request. Both bedrooms have seating, bedside tables and lamps, chest of drawers/dressing table, clothes-hanging facilities and radio. Bedroom 1 has two beds 510 mm (20 in) high, which can be made up to form a double bed. Access is from both sides. There is a basin in the bedroom. The private bathroom is adjacent. Bedroom 2 has a double bed 580 mm (23 in) high with access from both sides. There is an en-suite shower room. The separate bathroom adjoining Bedroom 1 has level access. There is a bath with hand-held shower attachment, and a non-slip mat is provided. The toilet is 395 mm (15.5 in) high. There is a heated towel rail, and the bathroom is well lit. The en-suite shower room adjoining Bedroom 2 has level access from the bedroom. The toilet is 395 mm (15.5 in) high. The shower cubicle is accessed by folding doors and there is a handrail on the side. The shower room is well lit and there is a shaver powerpoint.

Public areas

Halls, stairs, landings, and corridors

All the public areas are well lit with wall lights, ceiling lights and table lamps. The hall has stone flags and the stairs and landing are carpeted with natural flooring. There are no steps into the drawing room from the hall. The house is fully centrally heated but the temperature can be adjusted in individual rooms to suit your requirements. There are ceiling fire alarms in the bedrooms and on the landings,

Drawing room

The drawing room/breakfast room is situated off the hall with level entry and is heated by a woodburning stove. It is fully carpeted throughout with natural flooring, with a rug in front of the fireplace. Lighting is by wall lights, table lamps and reading light. There is a door leading out to the terrace with one step inside the room and two outside. An antique oak table provides seating for 4–6 people. A television is available for the use of guests. There is soft seating for six people, a sofa and three armchairs 395 mm (15.5 in) high.

Garden

The garden can be accessed from the car parking area by a flight of eight stone steps, or from the drawing room via three steps. There is a seating area with a table and chairs and the garden is a mixture of gravel and lawn.

Additional information

Safety instructions are provided in each bedroom and we have planned evacuation procedures. In the event of a fire or other emergency, we will come to your room and escort you safely from the building. There is a guest information folder in each bedroom, and further information including books of local interest can be found in the drawing room. We have storage and drying facilities for walkers, riders, cyclists, golfers, etc. We are happy to cater for specialist diets if we are made aware of requirements prior to arrival. Special items such as baby food can be stored in our fridge. Wi-fi is available and mobile phone reception at Grove Farm is good.
